In a recent issue of The O&P EDGE, an article highlighted finding creative solutions for tough pediatric cases. As most clinicians who treat children know, a child’s unique developmental and behavioral aspects require a different approach to care—which can often pose some difficulties. We asked our followers, What’s the best way to create a comfortable, clear, and supportive environment for children in your care?
Of those who responded 92 percent said the best way to treat children was to actively involve the child in his or her care, and the other eight percent said it helps to use clear and precise language. No one selected respecting the child’s privacy or reassuring and comforting them was the best option.
Most graduations, a milestone often viewed as a time of celebration marking the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and personal growth, have all but wrapped up. The excitement and joy, however, can also be fraught with challenges and uncertainties for many graduates. We asked our followers what were/are the biggest challenges they faced as graduates? 56 percent said financial uncertainty was their top concern; 31 percent said they’re anxious about the uncertainties of finding a job; and 13 percent said their biggest challenge was the emotional transition from college life to the working world. No one was most worried about the loss of the daily routine and structure that school life brought.
Taken from a feature in the June issue of The O&P EDGE focusing on providing O&P care to patients in less resourced countries, the first of our two-part question focused on the obstacles of providing such care. Of those who responded, 63 percent said the continuum of care was the most challenging; 31 percent said communicating with the patient presented major challenges; and 6 percent said something else, but they didn’t offer what those other challenges might be. No one responded that cultural differences were the biggest challenge.
For this week, the second question focuses on the benefits of providing O&P care in less resourced countries. So far, the response is that cultural awareness is the biggest advantage.
